Ugly Dawgs A Beautiful Concept
They may have a string of swinging drool that only a mother could love...but
now you can love them, cherish them, and help feed them--without all of the
slobber.

Ugly Dawgs co-founder Lisa Kavanaugh began rescuing big dogs more than ten
years ago. Her compassion turned into Blue Lion Animal Rescue, a no-kill
shelter that specializes in the unadoptable or "hard to adopt out" dogs.
Kavanaugh has taken in dogs and even two horses from near and far who are in
abusive situations or on death row--sometimes even purchasing them to get them
out of a bad situation--and giving us humans a second chance to realize their
worth. Because of their past, these pups are sometimes a bit too seasoned for a
new home, so many of the guests at Blue Lion end up living the rest of their
days romping on the ranch and enjoying the views of the Rocky Mountains. Now
they've also set their sites on improving the lives of "ugly dawgs" everywhere.
Lovely Miss Zeldamae was the inspiration for the cards. She drooled her way
into the spotlight, and quickly found she loves to ham it up for the camera,
dressed up in her favorite outfits. While she's proud to be the debut model for
the Ugly Dawgs greeting card line, we suspect that she's secretly waiting for
the call from SI wanting to feature her in the next swimsuit issue. In the
meantime, she's delighted to show off her outfits.
All species at Blue Lion agree--it's Ugly Dawg fashion
that has propelled these pups from the doghouse to the centerfold.
Zelda and the rest of her supermodel dawgs aren't just working for biscuits.
Part of the proceeds from the cards will go toward helping finance their lives
at Blue Lion. Donations will also be made to other no-kill shelters.
Stay tuned for plenty more Ugly Dawgs--they'll all have their turn in the
spotlight. We're hoping you'll find them as irresistible as we do.
